Sudden Valley Marina
First sessions of our “Essentials” courses are regularly taught at the private marina in the Sudden Valley development on Lake Whatcom, at 20 Marina Drive. Please note that access to this launching area is only available when accompanied by SSKS personnel!
From Bellingham, take Lakeway Dr. east and follow around the lake. Note that Lakeway Dr. briefly becomes Cable Ave. and then Lake Whatcom Blvd.; but stay on the “main drag” and you’ll be fine. Immediately after you pass a fire station on your left, turn left into Sudden Valley Gate 1 (Windward Dr.). Follow Windward Dr. until you reach Marina Dr, turn right and follow down the hill. We meet between the restroom building and the lake.
For those coming from south of Bellingham, exit I-5 at the Alger exit, turning right at the end of the ramp. Go straight at the intersection with Old Hwy. 99, and follow Cain Lake Rd. At the fork to South Bay Dr., bear left, and continue on as Cain Lake Rd. becomes Lake Whatcom Blvd. As you pass the golf course on your right, be looking for Gate 1 for your right turn — then follow Windward Dr. as above. If you pass the fire station on your right (at the top of a small rise), you’ve just missed Gate 1.
Some class sessions and “Fun Paddles” are held at the Wildcat Cove boat ramp, in Larrabee State Park. Access is from Cove Rd. off of Chuckanut Dr. (Hwy. 11). Watch for the white and brown signs for the boat launch, and follow Cove Rd. downhill. After crossing the railroad tracks, turn left, and proceed straight ahead to the parking area and ramp. Please note that use of this area requires either a WA State Parks Discover Pass* or paying a $10 day pass per vehicle fee (which can be purchased on site – no change available).
In the event your class is held in a location other than the 2 above, you’ll be notified by email or by phone ahead of time.
Our instructors typically arrive ¾ to ½ hour before the class start time and can be reached on cell phone number 360.630.3649. At other times, please call 888.858.8411. The cell number is unreliable at our offices.
