Winter 2021 Site Updates

As the rain pours down and winds howl, it’s a quiet time here at SSKS; but it won’t be too much longer before getting out to paddle will be more appetizing. When I do venture out at this time of year, I always pack extra dry clothes/layers in a dry bag in a hatch and a thermos of hot chocolate. Having a towel and, perhaps, more dry clothes in the truck for the drive home is a good idea too.

Some broken links in the Resources section have been fixed (Cold Water Bootcamp), and a great follow-up video that demonstrates the need for appropriate paddle clothing to protect one if immersed in cold water has been added. Check them out!

As usual, I plan on publishing the Calendar for this season in March; but don’t forget that I can teach even at this time of the year. Simply get in touch, and I’ll work with you on content and scheduling! Something NEW for 2021 will be sessions on Greenland Paddles, where one can try them out and learn the differences in boat handling and ergonomics of these traditional paddles. Many of you have heard me speak of my preference for Greenland Paddles for general paddling and for touring, especially. Here will be opportunities to experience using them yourself.

Until the Covid-19 situation eases, face coverings will be REQUIRED during on-land portions of classes. Once on the water, everyone should be adequately distanced sufficiently to not need masks.

Best wishes for Happy Paddling!
